History of the Punk Genre


The Punk Genre came about in the 1970's and was made to upset and anger people, particularly parents. This meant that it would appeal to rebellious teenagers as they'd love what their parent's hated.

Punk would bands would supposedly feature a working class style of person, but soon became more focused on the violence and fighting / discrimination aspect.

Vivienne Westwood opened a clothing retail shop focused and based around the style of the Punk Genre.

She designed leather jackets, studded clothing, selling piercings, chains, and Union Jack designed clothing.



Once the Punk Genre became popular people started to copy, such as Clash which were musically better yet they featured the same appearance and style of music.
